A culinary May weekend
One weekend, two times enjoyment. Two festivals await you on May 11th and 12th, and entice you with culinary delights: the Genussfestival (Viennese Gourmet Festival) in Stadtpark and the craft beer festival in the Marx Halle. Then let's see what you can look forward to.
Viennese Gourmet Festival – regional enjoyments in the heart of the city
If you want to get to know the variety of Austrian specialties, or rather taste them, then keep the days 11th to 13th of May free. During these 3 days, Austria's best manufactories and rural producers will present themselves in the Stadtpark, right in the heart of Vienna. They transform the spring-blooming city park into a unique gourmet paradise. Around 200 exhibitors are just waiting to pamper you with their culinary specialties. And there are classic delicacies such as mountain cheese from the Bregenzerwald, Viennese leg ham, bacon from Mangalitza pig, hand-stirred jams or Waldviertler poppy seed sweets.
But also new fine creations can be tasted such as lavender eggnog, carp bratwurst, sheep ricotta, Uhudler jelly, chick bean chilli, smoking fish in a jar and much more. But before I write here for a long time, which delicious things you will find there... If you have become hungry and curious while reading, then just visit the city park at this specific weekend and get to know the diverse culinary side of Vienna and Austria.
The Genuss Festival is open on the following days, admission is free:
Friday 11th May 11am – 9pm
Saturday May 12th 10am - 9pm
Sunday May 13th 10am - 5pm
All information about the exhibitors and their offer can be found on the website of the Genuss Festival under www.genuss-festival.at.
Craft Beer Fest - Beer enjoyment and beer variety
Also on May 11th and 12th, the Craft Beer Festival will take place in Vienna, celebrating the creative side of the beer country Austria. For all beer lovers this gourmet event for artisan brewed beer from all parts of Austria and international breweries is probably an absolute fix date to keep. Around 90 exhibitors will present their specialties and are ready for tasting.
Ireland is also presenting itself as a special guest country this year. Also in Ireland, there is an exciting, emerging craft beer scene that you can get to know at the festival. Other Irish specialties such as Irish spirits, ciders and Irish food complete the thematic focus.
But it's not just the beers that play an important role here at Craft Beer Fest, but there's another very special focus: Whiskey. This focus was created by the exciting collaboration between an Austrian brewery (Bevog) and an Irish distillery (Jameson). The result of this collaboration can now be tasted for the first time at the Craft Beer Fest: a barrel of Aged Black IPA - a unique blend of beer and whiskey.
Even culinary you will be spoiled on these two days, because it offers a variety of food on you. From street food Viennese style to burgers in all variants, to pulled pork sandwiches and delicacies from two organic farmers.
The Craft Beer Fest takes place in the Marx Hall, Karl-Farkas-Gasse 19, 1030 Vienna. It is open on Friday (11.5) and Saturday (12.5) from 16-23h
