Carina Lagun - a host more personal

Your profession... and your offer to Vienna guests

I am a trained retail merchant, but I have been looking after 15 apartments in two different locations for 2 years now.

From the planning over the interior design, guest services, office work to accounting everything is there - I'm the girl for everything, so to speak!

Where were you born?

In Vienna.

What is so special about your work? What do you like about it? How did you got the idea doing this?

My husband is working in the real estate industry for many years. For some time we have been tempted to provide apartments for tourists and business people.

When we found the ideal location, we put this project into action. I quit my job and am now on board with my heart and soul.

The special thing about this work is that you get to know people from all over the world and the most diverse cultures. This always offers surprises.

Most of them are positive, but from time to time there are also negative experiences, from which you can learn a lot more.

Do you have a typical day?

There are hardly any monotonous working days, because almost every day I deal with new guests, all of whom have different needs.

It is important to greet each guest personally and to welcome them. This gives the guests a contact person; I like to give personal tips about sights, excursions and restaurants or coffee houses, which you will not necessarily find in the guide.

Something special I remember....

After two years being a host I could already write books about the experiences with guests.

There are many beautiful and sometimes funny things that I remember - for example: Guests who broke the door lock and scrambled out the window at 05:30 to buy breakfast; guests who confused the toilet with the trash bin and thereby clogged all the pipes; guests who do not speak a word of English and yet tell all sorts of things in their native language. The most beautiful thing for me, however, are the shining eyes of the guests when you enter one of our apartments and immediately feel at ease and at home.

3 words that describe me

sensitive, cosmopolitan, perfectionist

Why I like living in Vienna ...

Abgesehen davon wohnen all meine Lieblingsmenschen in Wien!

Because Vienna is a multifaceted city, where there is always something new to discover. We have many cultural, gastronomic and musical highlights as well as lots of green oases and recreational areas.

Apart from that, all my beloved people live in Vienna!

What do you like abou the city?

First and foremost probably the people - although I often get annoyed about "the Viennese Grantler" (grumpy people), but they are part of our city and if you look at the whole thing with a wink, you manage to see beyond one or the other discourtesy. The typical Viennese nonsense makes up for a lot here and most of the guests perceive us Viennese as very polite and friendly.

But furthermore, Vienna is of course a city of exciting history, beautiful historic buildings, great events and restaurants and a distinctive flair.

Carina's tips for Vienna

My personal Vienna tip …

I always recommend to my guests to explore the small lanes off the beaten path, be it in the historic city center, where there are great hidden shops or in the 6th and 7th districts with their cozy cafes and great fashion and interior shops.

My favourite place in Vienna …

One of my favorite places is the Kahlenberg, from whose platform you have a breathtaking view over the city. In addition, there are beautiful hiking and walking trails.

I love to spend warm summer days at the Vienna City Beach Club - this is a piece of holiday in the middle of Vienna.

My favourite restaurant in Vienna …

This is the L´Osteria del Collio. A small family-run Italian in the first district with fresh food and great value for money.

And the S´Pfiff in Neustift – best Austrian cuisine and a large garden.
