Hot springs in Vienna

Today I have a suggestion for you, when instead of cool, rainy weather you simply want warm water, wellness and relax time.

How about on such a day with a visit to the spa? Now you think maybe, beautiful and good idea, but where in Vienna is there a thermal bath? Are not all at least 1 if not more hours car drive away from Vienna?

Then I have good news for you, because we have our own large thermal baths in Vienna: the Therme Wien in Oberlaa.

It all began with a sulfur source....

Already for almost 40 years the sulfur source Oberlaa is located here. Previously, the spa really had a very, well, medical charm. As a child I was often there, and the smell of sulfur I still remember. At that time, there was only one swimming pool where you could really swim without getting too much in trouble if splashing around a little bit. And then when the hunger grew great, there was at the exit a stand, where you could buy sesame loafs. Childhood memories.

But that now belongs to the past, because in 2010, after a complete round-renewal and expansion, the Therme Wien was reopened in new splendor. And the result can really be seen. It is by far the most modern and largest city spa of Europe.

On a total area of 75,000 m², it offers approx. 4,000 m² of water area, about 3,000 m² of sauna area, a health care area of over 6,000 m² and a fitness area of approx. 1,200 m². In addition to high-caliber architecture and appealing design, massages, Finnish saunas, steam baths, brine and cave baths, jump towers, broad-, tire- and experience slides, but also daily child animation and the first thermal library of Austria are part of the extensive offer.

These are the basic data, but the most important thing is that you will find plenty of space and time for you to enjoy and relax in the spa.

You can find all details about the extensive offer on the website of the Therme Wien. There are a variety of tickets ranging from just a few hours to a relaxing daypackage with everything you need for a relaxing day.

By the way, you can start your visit to the thermal spa already at home and buy your ticket online. Simply search for "Therme" in our event search and select a ticket.

What I have not told you yet, recently you can go directly with the subway U1 into the thermal baths. That’s pretty awsome, with the subway from the city center directly to the thermal baths. Everything relaxed and simple.

And the sesame loaf? Perhaps you still get it somewhere near the exit...
