Just a few more days ...

Now it is only a few more days until Christmas, time really flies by. That's why in today’s blog article I collected a lot of information and inspiration for the Christmas holidays and New Year's Eve for you.

A bit of planning around the holidays

If you plan to spend the 24th in a restaurant, bar, club, ... then definitely check the list of Vienna Tourist Board. Practically, they already have a fine overview of which restaurants have open that day. What is definitely recommended, is to reserve, so you can spend the evening in a relaxed atmosphere in your desired restaurant.

Incidentally, this list is also available for 31.12, and it is also important to make a reservation here. For most of New Year's Eve something special is planned such as gala dinner, house ball or just a fabulous party.

Whether it's Christmas or New Year's Eve, something that has a long tradition in Vienna in many households are sandwiches. About them I have already written an own blog post, because it is not just "just" sandwiches. But read it yourself.

Christmas holidays

After Christmas, Vienna immerses itself in a very special atmosphere. Because many people are now on vacation, everything is a bit quieter, at the same time you feel the excitement and anticipation of the turn of the year and Vienna is slowly getting ready to celebrate this accordingly.

When you stay in an apartment, remember that after Christmas there are 2 holidays and on 25.12 and 26.12 almost all shops have closed. There are usually exceptions at train stations and at the airport. On 24.12, although almost all shops are open, but usually the crowd is very large here. Better plan a bit and spend the day stress-free.

New Year's Eve

Celebrate New Year's Eve in Vienna in every way you wish. In addition to countless events, the biggest event is the New Year's Eve trail. From 2 p.m., the old town of Vienna will be transformed into a huge party area until 2 o'clock in the morning. Along the New Year's Eve trail, numerous restaurateurs serve punch and culinary specialties. The many stations provide entertainment with show program, waltz, operetta, rock, pop, DJ lines and pop music. At midnight there is a big fireworks display at the Rathausplatz and in the Prater.

For the imperial atmosphere at the turn of the year, events such as the Hofburg Silvesterball and Silvestergalas in the Vienna City Hall as well as in luxurious Viennese hotels will also be on hand. What else you can do on New Year's Eve in Vienna, you can find here at the Vienna Tourist Board which has prepared a very handy list. The selection is truly huge, as it is every year.

THE classic on New Year's Day is the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Getting tickets is a bit difficult. But you can watch it from the comfort of your own home and almost all over the world, as this very special concert is broadcasted in 90 countries around the world. The transmission traditionally starts at 10 o'clock, so enough time to wake up after a long New Year's Eve party.

What we will do on New Year's Eve is not yet clear. But we will definitely welcome the New Year in a comfortable way. And what are your plans or traditions?
