This night is long & eventful
At the beginning of October, more precisely on Saturday 7th, it is again that time of the year. It will be a long night with an extensive program and this already for the 18th time. What it is about? It is again the day of the Long Night of Museums. This night you have the opportunity to visit and discover countless museums and institutions with only one ticket.
Small & curious meets big & renowned
Not only are the large, well-known museums taking part in the Long Night, but also many small, unusual, sketchy, not everyday museums and institutions. Did you know that there is a Circus & Clown Museum, a coffee experience museum, a Schnaps museum, a chimney sweep museum, a snow globe museum or a chocolate museum - presented by Confiserie Heindl? No? Then you have the opportunity to see all these museums and many more with just one ticket.
About a few, I have already written you here in the blog:
Of course, the classics among the museums like the Albertina, the Kunsthistorische Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Belvedere, the National Library and many more also take part. So you can really create your own personal mix.
By bus through the city
Your ticket for the Long Night is also valid as a ticket for the shuttle buses which will take you all night through Vienna and also for public transport.
The central point of the bus routes 1-3 for the Long Night of Museums is the Museum Information Point at the Maria-Theresien-Platz in Vienna. In intervals of approx. 15 minutes the venues, which are on the routes, are approached between 18.00 and 01.00 hours.
Would you like to go to museums by bicycle? Then you have an ideal opportunity with the Citybikes and an additional mobile Citybike-Wien-Station at the Museum Information Point will be set up especially for the Long Night of the Museums.
From my own experience
I also took part in one of the last Long Night of Museums, and the time really flies by. In any case, I recommend you to wear very comfortable shoes, you will go a lot and also the onion technique when dressed has proved very successful.
I managed 11 museums in the one night, and after that I was pretty much done, but also filled with many new impressions. Therefore, if you have time, this night really pays off.
Around the Long Night of Museums
You can find all information about the Long Night of the Museums on the website. There you can also download your booklet with all participating institutions.
My recommendation, look at it already in advance, because the selection is as written huge. It is best to look for a few of your favorites and then you can still spontaneously look into one or the other museum. This is the fine thing on this night, just to be spontaneous.
Tickets are available in advance at tickets.orf.at and at all participating museums and cultural institutions and at the day of the event also on the Museum Information Point.
