As every year, Vienna will have a special theme in 2020. This year it's all about music again, especially on the occasion of Beethoven's 250th birthday. ALL EARS ON: VIENNA

Vienna and music - that belongs together. In 2020, the focus will be on those artists and institutions that make Vienna the world's capital of music. World stars rave about Vienna: including Billy Joel, Hans Zimmer, Yuja Wang and Joshua Bell. They are a Viennese by choice like Beethoven, who once came to Vienna to stay and would celebrate his 250th birthday in 2020. Opulent celebrations announced. His revolutionary music continues to sound worldwide. But let's take a look at Vienna, because the brilliant composer chose this city as his center of life. He came here to stay. Forever. A small selection of the highlights of 2020 in Vienna

After the Christmas market, the next big event follows at the Rathausplatz, the Wiener Eistraum. The entire place is transformed from January 22nd to March 1st into a winter dream landscape that you can explore with your skates. The experience is rounded off by numerous stands, which also provide you with hearty food and drink.

Vienna is also known worldwide for its numerous balls and right now in the carnival season the selection of balls is huge. I would like to briefly introduce two of them to you, because they really have a very special flair: the Vienna Opera Ball and the Rudolfina-Redoute.

I already told you about the Rudolfina-Redoute, Vienna's last real masquerade ball. This year it will take place on February 24th and what the chairman has already revealed many special highlights await you. I myself have visited the Rudolfina-Redoute before, and it is really something very special.

The Vienna Opera Ball is still polarizing and is a media spectacle for a short time every year. Who comes with whom, who invited which star guest, who does the reporting, who will open, and many more questions concern people. Nevertheless, this ball in particular is one of the highlights of the annual ball happening and fascinates people worldwide.

At the end of March, when Easter comes nearer, the Easter markets open again in Vienna. From March 27th to April 14th they are waiting for you with traditional Easter decorations, regional specialties and a colorful program.

One week after Easter, namely on April 19, the legendary Vienna City Marathon takes place. Again, more than 42,000 runners are expected to explore Vienna on a very special route.

Again briefly back to March. Vienna will get a new museum on March 12th, the Albertina Modern, an “offshoot” of the Albertina. In the newly renovated Künstlerhaus on Karlsplatz, the Albertina presents its collection of around 60,000 works of contemporary art on 5,000 m². The first exhibition is entitled “The Beginning. Art in Vienna 1945 to 1980 ".

On May 21st there will be the next musical highlight, the Schönbrunn Summer Night Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic. Music enjoyment at the highest level and with free admission.

Then it will soon be summer in Vienna. A time when the city slows down a bit and people enjoy the summer lightness.

The music film festival on Rathausplatz is celebrating a milestone birthday in summer, namely its 30s. From the end of June to the beginning of September there is a cross-genre music program on a huge open-air screen. Numerous restaurateurs with culinary specialties from all over the world take care of your physical well-being.

In summer there are two major events on Vienna's Danube Island. The Danube Island Festival, Europe's largest open air festival with free admission, from 26th June till 28th June and in August the Vienna Major where the island becomes the hotspot of the international beach volleyball scene.

Also in summer, namely from July 9th to August 9th, Vienna becomes a dance metropolis. Because then the time of the ImPulse dance festival has come again. Thousands of professional artists and people interested in dance from all over the world meet here, inspire one another, research, exchange ideas and transform Vienna every summer into an epicenter of contemporary dance and performance art.

Film lovers will get their money's worth from October 22nd, because the Viennale, Vienna's well-known film festival, will take place again until November 4th. Every year there is a festival with urban flair and international orientation in Vienna's city center with its beautiful, comfortable cinemas, with numerous guests from home and abroad. Let the program surprise you again this year.

From mid-November, when Vienna is slowly preparing for Christmas and New Year's Eve, the numerous Christmas markets will start again, spreading a very special flair throughout the city.

So these are a few, and really only a few, highlights that are waiting for you in Vienna this year. As already written, I will regularly tell you more in the blog what you can experience in Vienna.
