The Fälschermuseum (Museum of Art fakes) Wien shows forgeries made by famous and notorious art forgers and tells exciting stories about crime. A museum that requires no sense of art as a visitor to find it amusing.

How did you get the idea to start this museum?
We, the founders, met a condemned art forger (Edgar Mrugalla) and his stories and experiences (he cheated on nearly € 20 million) inspired us to the museum
Why did you choose Vienna as location?
We lived here.
Is there something special abou the location of your museum?
The Fälschermuseum Wien is located vis-à-vis the Hundertwasserhaus.
Please tell us more about the history of your museum …
It features spectacular crime stories around the real counterfeit works of notorious art forgers such as Han van Meegeren, Konrad Kujau, Edgar Mrugalla, Lothar Malskat, Eric Hebborn, Tom Keating, Elmyr de Hory, John Myatt, and many others and explains the differences between original, copy and counterfeit (because copies are not counterfeits).
So one learns, among other things, why the most famous English counterfeiter hid time bombs in his fakes, another one was murdered under mysterious circumstances, how Han van Meegeren could cheat on Hermann Göring, what was written in Kujau's Hitler diaries, a fake turkey in Germany that wrote history, why there are now already "false" fakes and much, much more ......
