Neubau is the seventh district of Vienna; located near the city centre it counts as one of the inner districts. It is a lively and populated area, known for its young and hip feel, and abundance of shops, museums, restaurants, cafés and bars. Most notable sights in the district include the Main Library on the Gürtel (Hauptbücherei), with a bar and restaurant on top offering lovely views of Vienna, the Imperial Furniture Collection (Möbelmuseum), the Vienna Volkstheater, and the Museum Quarter (Museumsquartier) near the first district, which is one of the largest cultural centres in Europe, home to numerous museums and exhibitions, and a popular meeting spot among locals to enjoy art, a drink, or just to people-watch. You will find a range of boutiques and shops, as well as bars and restaurants, on the lively Mariahilfer Straße, a popular semi-pedestrianized shopping street. Do not miss a stroll along the cobble-stoned alleys of Spittelberg, lovely at any time of the year, but
especially charming in winter when they host one of Vienna’s many Christmas Markets from mid-November until Christmas.
